College of IT & Management Education (CIME) formerly known as Centre for IT Education (CITE) came up as an initiative of the Orissa State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (A State Government Enterprise, Odisha) under Electronics and Information Technology Department of Government of Odisha on 4th August, 2000 to impart educational programs in the field of IT and Management. .

In a historical decision taken in the 17th Cabinet Meeting held on 19.11.2005 of the Government of Odisha, the Institute was transferred to the control and management of Industries Department w.e.f. 31.01.2006. Further, Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha as per the decision taken in its 4th Meeting of the Board of Management took over the Institute as Constituent College. .

The Institute later placed from Industries Department to Employment and Technical Education Department, and presently under the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha.

The Government has granted permission to conduct MCA, MBA (Full-Time), MBA (Part-Time), and M.Sc (Computer Science) programs under the ageis of Biju Patnaik University of Technology. The courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India.
